MWA developed a short brief focusing on the role of the IOM Lebanon Office following several concerns expressed by various migrant-led community groups. The brief discusses several issues leading to confusion as experienced by MDWs in Lebanon and provides recommendations to IOM Lebanon.

On the occasion of International Day For the Abolition of Slavery, MWA is launching its report on the plight of Kenyan Migrant Domestic Workers on their migration journey to Lebanon. The report is the first of MWA’s In-Focus research series aiming to provide an in-depth understanding of localised contexts in sending countries, leading MDWs to travel to Lebanon as well as their experiences under the Kafala system in Lebanon.

In light of recent regional developments, MWA has contacted Embassies and Consulates to inquire about potential evacuation plans for Migrants should the situation escalate in Lebanon. We have compiled the series of statements issued and saved them in a public Google Drive folder that will be regularly updated. We encourage the dissemination of this document to all Migrant Domestic Worker communities in Lebanon and recommend following the Embassies and Consulates on Facebook for updates.

For World Mental Health Day, Migrant Workers' Action has compiled a Fact Sheet on how the Kafala System negatively affects Migrant Domestic Workers' mental health due to exploitative situations and hostile environments. The Fact Sheet includes recommendations and resources for MDWs in need for support. Migrant Workers' Action has submitted an input to the UN Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Slavery after a call for submissions by civil society to discuss the linkage of homelessness and modern-day slavery. The Kafala system is one of the key drivers of homelessness among Migrant Domestic Workers in Lebanon.
